Opening Day 2014

Down and Out

Interesting article by Newsday's David Lennon in his Extra Innings column about all the pitchers this Spring that need Tommy John surgery. A great medical case study, but a general managers nightmare. Here's the list of players from Spring Training that need Tommy John surgery. 1. Bruce Rondon, Tigers 2. Patrick Corbin, D-backs 3. Jarrod Parker, A's 4. Brandon Beachy, Braves 5. Kris Medlen, Braves 6. Luke Hochevar, Royals Beachy, Medlen and Parker are having their second Tommy John surgery. For the teams involved, it leaves them scrambling to look for a quality pitcher to fill either the starting rotation or bullpen spot. Until then, see ya at the park. -- Joe Boesch

Waiting for Spring

Just when we thought that the snow was behind us, New York again got hit with another snow storm. Word is that this weekend can be up to 3 feet of the white fluffy stuff. Not fun. But, we must look forward and think of Spring and baseball. I must admit I enjoyed the NHL Stadium Series and always look forward to the Olympics, but baseball is my passion. With that said, here's a look at the Yankees projected line up for the 2014 season: Yankees Projected Starting Line up 1. Jacoby Ellsbury CF 2. Derek Jeter SS 3. Carlos Beltran RF 4. Mark Teixeira 1B 5. Brian McCann C 6. Alfonso Soriano DH 7. Kelly Johnson 3B 8. Brian Roberts 2B 9. Brett Gardner LF Starting Pitchers 1. CC Sabathia LHP 2. Hiroki Kuroda RHP 3. Masahiro Tanaka RHP 4. Ivan Nova RHP 5. Michael Pineda RHP Until then, see ya at the park. -- Joe Boesch
